Straight Bullyism Progress... on 08.02.2009

I'm getting really excited about the game I'm working on, Straight Bullyism. I've been doing a lot of work lately, ever since moving out and doing Flash as a job. I worked for over 130 hours this month, which is 4.23h/day (including the days I did no work when I was moving in)! At the bottom of this post I put the work hours for this month, check the Work Statistics for more info.
Time for some more info on Straight Bullyism. It's an adventure/RPG turn-based fighting game, where you are a bully in elementary school climbing the ranks of the underground bullying world. You can travel the hallways fighting other students and stealing their items, money and homework, or go to the washrooms and get missions from other bullies... whatever it takes to get through grade 6 without doing any actual work.
Here's an estimate of some of the gameplay specs:
- I'm animating the entire game in frame-by-frame animation, cutscenes at 15fps and gameplay at 10fps. The game it self runs at 30fps if there is no lagg.
- From 5 to 10 minutes of cutscenes.
- At least 4 common hallway enemies with unique attacks
- At least 6 items
- At least 8 special attacks
- At least 8 different plot characters
More info on SB can be found in the preview.
On an unrelated note, if you want to play in any The World's Hardest Game cash tournaments which should be starting soon, I'd go and sign up on Payout Hub (as a player), and deposit some money into your account, because it takes like a week to process the request.

Isaiah's Adventure on 07.18.2009

Right now my priority is Straight Bullyism, so most of the work I do is on that project. I'm also working on a few other projects as well though, and one of those is a game called, "Isaiah's Awesome Adventure" (no preview yet, not enough done). I'm done some of the engine on the game, and Isaiah has animated some of the enemies and bosses etc.
One thing that Isaiah's Awesome Adventure and Straight Bullyism have in common is that they are both kind of half cartoon/half game, meaning that there's a lot of cutscenes, and the cutscenes are animated as if they were a stand-alone cartoon, so it's not just one frame with some narration or something, it's a real cartoon. We figured we'd post half of the intro cutscene for IAA right now!
Also, we've been listening to MF-Doom. He raps about original stuff other than just killing people and stuff, and a lot of his stuff is really, really good. Below is "All Caps", but also check out Hoe Cakes and Saliva. One shitty thing about MF-Doom though is that there's always some annoying shit at the end of all his songs, so just ignore that.

New Place, SB, Tournaments! on 07.10.2009

Hey everybody! I've been living in my new place now for about a week, and Isaiah's been here for a few days. This place is pretty sweet and we've already worked quite a bit. Things aren't really going exactly to plan, but we're going to see if this whole thing works out based on the way the next month or two goes. Click the links below to see some pictures of the new place...
Entrance | Kitchen | Living Room | Bathroom | My Bedroom | Work Space
I've made quite a bit of progress on Straight Bullyism (click for preview). There are 2 new screenshots on the preview, so definitely check it out, this is going to be a sick game. One cool thing about this game is not only can you change the hair, skin, shirt and pants colors of your character, but also all of the enemies have easily modified colors too, so every enemy is you face won't look the same. Right now I'm pretty much done the basic turn-based fight programming, and now I'm working on filling up the halls with enemies, and designing new ones. I also have a looooot of cut-scenes to animate.
Finally, I'm working on setting up The World's Hardest Game online, real-money tournaments! You can buy-in using Paypal and if you beat the game in the least deaths (compared to whoever else is in the tournament) you win the jackpot, and you can submit as many scores as you want (the best score is used). Tournaments may last like a week, or just a day, and also the buy-in can be as little as a dollar and as high as we want. So if you've got skillz, there's a chance you could win some extra money playing TWHG. If it works out well on TWHG1, I'll run tournaments on the second version as well. Also just a note, the tournaments will be hack-proof (unlike our scoreboards). For more info, check out Payout Hub. It's going to be fun!

Hey everyone! I've got a lot done on my new game, so I'm going to give a brief summary and some screenshots! For more pictures/videos (eventually) check out the preview.
Basically, it's a turn-based fighting and character building RPG game where you're a bully in elementary school. You roam the halls fighting other students and stealing their homework, and you can also find other bullies and get quests in order to get more homework points. The main character is going to have a total of at least 15 different attacks, and there are many different types of enemies with their own unique attacks. And it's all done in pure frame-by-frame animation.
You can also customize your character at the start of the game, and your design is carried through the whole game, including in the cutscene animation. Oh, and did I mention there's cutscene animation? There is going to be at least 10 unique cutscenes.
I dropped out of 3 of my grade 12 courses this year, so I'm only taking 3 courses now (computer technology, computer programming and art), and I have no exams. I'm moving out of my place in a little over a month, and from there on I'm going to be doing Flash professionally for at least the next year. But since I'm basically out of school now, I'm already starting to get my work hours up. Yesterday I got 6.5 hours. I'm going to try to get the Work Hours updated more frequently from now on, but at least once a month.
I'm also going to be adding a few more photos to the Photo Album. You can also keep up to date with everything we post on the site from the Update Log.
Also, I think I'll throw a curveball at you here...

*Melissa is awesome* Lately, I haven't been doing much work at all. I always go through phases where I work like mad and then I'm sick of it and I don't work at all, so right now I'm just kind of trying to get motivated though. However, Isaiah has had great work hours for like at least a month now, so that makes up for some of it.
So yeah, right now my main project is a new game (screenshot below), and I'm also working on another few games. Isaiah is working on like 2 movies and 2 games as well, so it should be a little slow for a bit, and then there should be a surge of releases. I (or Isaiah) will try to keep you guys updated more about our progress. I'll also try to get some previews up eventually.
